Really gorgeous piece over at LitHub from Ben H. Winters today. Amid the firestorm surrounding his new book, he talks about how it's clearly influenced by Octavia Butler, and discusses other favorite influences who are writers of color (mostly mystery authors!) Lot of great people on that list: Walter Mosley, Attica Locke, Chester Himes, Rachel Howzell Hall. It also reminds me that I need to revisit Walter Mosley again, because his books and general advice helped me so much when I was trying to develop character voices.
Happy Tuesday,
